Paragon Prep News Weekly Update – December 2nd

Hello Paragon Families,

I hope you all were able to enjoy a restful week with family and friends. While I played tour guide to some visiting family this week, I was so thankful to have a moment to unplug from work and spend quality time with my family.

Upon reflection, as we do when given a break and release from routine and demand: I am so thankful for our community of families and our staff. Hearing stories from my family about their schools and challenges, I am so thankful to be given the opportunity to lead this courageous and tireless staff to work with your insightful, kind, curious, tireless children.

Our staff showed courage and longevity last week while some of us were in Big Bend on adventures and the rest were holding down the fort, planning and executing our Fall Family Potluck. Big Bend was wonderful– the weather was better than expected, the kids were able to be in nature and see some amazing sites, and the adventures were surprisingly perfect. Everyone had their meltdowns at the appropriate times and everyone returned different than how they left; stronger, more patient, and hopefully more confident in themselves. The staff included! We wake up early and get back to the hotel late, but we all share this hard experience together. We all share an experience that the rest of the school did not. We are bonded by Big Bend and stronger because of Big Bend.

I’m sure the students did not come home with the same feeling of accomplishment :). While we were riding horses, climbing “mountains”, or canoeing with a novice partner, I often thought to myself– “jees, this is so cool– my 8th grade self would have hated it!” The students may not realize the hurdles they overcame or feel the success they earned by trying something new or scary. But hopefully, somewhere or sometime in the future, the experience will come back around to help them in some struggle in life. Some hardships, like feeling like you cannot steer a canoe, so you jump into the frigid water to swim it in the direction you want to go. Somehow, our adventure will hopefully be remembered as fun, confidence-building, and a wonderful bonding memory with the strongest 7th & 8th grade class (and staff) I’ve ever known. I am thankful to not only know them, but I have watched them grow up and I am so proud.

See you soon and wishing you the best week,

Lindsay Hay, M. Ed.
