Head of School Weekly Update – 3/31/25

Dear Paragon Families,

I am back from an incredible week traveling with our 5th and 6th graders to Colonial Virginia, and while I am absolutely exhausted, I wouldn’t trade a single moment of it. Spending time with our students as they explored Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown was a powerful reminder of why these experiences are so valuable. Watching them step into history—walking the same grounds as the early colonists and revolutionary soldiers—brought their classroom learning to life in the most meaningful way.

Beyond the historical knowledge they gained, I was struck by the deeper lessons of independence and resiliency they discovered along the way. Whether they were carrying their own bags, navigating new surroundings, or simply pushing through the fatigue of a packed itinerary, they did so with determination and a sense of adventure. These moments of growth are just as important as the facts they learned about the American Revolution—their confidence and self-reliance blossomed with each new challenge.

I was also incredibly proud of how our students represented Paragon. Their curiosity, respect, and kindness stood out at every site we visited. Whether they were asking thoughtful questions at historical reenactments or demonstrating patience during long travel days, their maturity was inspiring. Our chaperones and guides consistently praised their engagement and manners, and I couldn’t have been prouder.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the support of our amazing parent and staff chaperones. Their flexibility, positivity, and willingness to dive into every activity made this trip seamless and so much fun. From helping with logistics to sharing in the wonder of each historical site, they were such an integral part of the experience. I am beyond grateful for their partnership. Thank you Haley Behr, Matt Mulconrey, Joanna Norris, Jim and Coral Terry.

As we settle back into our routines, I know the memories and lessons from this trip will stay with our students for years to come. They not only deepened their understanding of American history but also gained a greater sense of independence and resilience—skills that will serve them well far beyond the classroom. Thank you for trusting us with your children on this unforgettable adventure!

With gratitude,

Lindsay Hay, M. Ed.
