Head of School Weekly Update – 2/24/25

Dear Paragon Families,

I know this week’s picture is unexpected. What is a picture of 2020 Mrs. Behr doing on YouTube in my newsletter?

Have you ever looked for something– a video or picture in your archives, then get sucked down a rabbit hole of memories and moments that you forgot but meant so much?

That happened to me on Monday. I was looking for a video of our Paragon fight song for Mr. Brooke (who wants to get our band to play it :)!!) and I entered a wormhole in Paragon’s Youtube channel. While I can never get those 2 hours (!) of my life back, I was thrust into the Paragon past…the pandemic…our graduates…my son and his graduating class at a time when there was so much uncertainty and fear.

I was moved by our 2020 Graduation Ceremony, which I produced, but have no recollection of the details. Our 8th graders were so mature, polished, and hopeful even though so much of our lives at the time was in flux.

Watching this video actually got me so excited to see our current 8th graders’ transformation into the high schoolers we know they will be. Our current 8th grade class has been with us the longest, and has not only endured the pandemic, but have lived past it– reliving it only as a blip in the rear view mirror. I can’t wait to see the amazing things they will do with their lives with all of this experience in their past.

As I watch the videos of past PNNs and graduations, I can still remember the names of all of the students on the screen and all of our inside jokes and stories. It’s as if they are in the next classroom, forever frozen at Paragon; forever frozen in 8th grade.

It makes me truly appreciate the moments we have with our students everyday. Our current students are carving out those inside jokes with me daily and we are actively making memories that will stay with our staff forever.

Have I mentioned that I love my job? I genuinely love coming to work everyday, no matter the challenge, schedule or child– every moment for me is cherished and valued. As I embrace the past Paragon generations, I am so honored to get to attend another graduation, watch more PNNs and be a part of more student’s lives. This is a dream come true.

Warmly,

Lindsay Hay, M. Ed.

Head of School
