Ms. Johnson is a native Austinite who loves learning, teaching, spending time with family, reading, gardening, and travel.
After earning a B.A. in Psychology with an emphasis in elementary education at Hollins University in 1986, she taught PK-2nd grade in Columbus, TX, Tampa, FL, Honolulu, HI, and Austin. She has also tutored all elementary grades and served as a campus reading interventionist for K-5th. Her current certifications are Texas Teacher of Young Children and Texas English as a Second Language. She held Austin ISD Gifted and Talented endorsement for 31 years, and National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification for 20 years. (https://www.nbpts.org/)
During her career, Ms. Johnson was voted campus teacher of the year and semifinalist for AISD teacher of the year. She mentored numerous student interns, student teachers, 1st and 2nd year teachers, and National Board candidates and served in many leadership roles on her campuses. As a curious, lifelong learner, she has completed countless hours of professional training in elementary literacy, math, science, social studies, SEL, G/T, TBRI (trust-based relational intervention), CP&I (cultural proficiency and inclusion), educational technology, and outdoor learning.
Ms. Johnson is happy to be a part of the Paragon family, supporting students, teachers, and families as a substitute teacher and as the K-3 Valor tutor
